Yes, retail is slowly disappearing but that’s because I can go online, shop five different stores and get the camera/TV/book/blinds I want at 10% less than any local store, delivered for free, and without any sales tax. I think folks are hoping for plenty of cute specialty stores rather than for retail in general.

Sadly, the Village has thrown in the towel on expanding retail in downtown DG. Look around and you will see that each year retail is slowly disappearing. It now seems fairly obvious that the trend will continue. That is what is next.

I found Jankowski, although he’s an economist, spot on as to the “wait for something better” approach to this issue. It ain’t comin’ folks…We are fortunate to get this space filled, get a boutique grocer across the street and tax both buildings to their full capacity…That should help pay off those darn TIF bonds…

Oh, and Yes I still will go to the car shows, Ballydoyle, Everyday’s a Sunday , Gattos and all the other shops downtown DG, even though that god awful ATI is open.

The third and final part of the AOTG agreement is the purchase of a single building that fronts 5117 Main Street for $461,000.

That’s the building with the walkway that runs down one side and has the Mad Potter in it. AOTG Building #3 on Burlington between Washington and Mochel Drive was included in the second part of the agreement.

Tangentially, and my opinion only, $461K for that building…that’s a giveaway.

Mark, Your last paragraph makes no sense… Please clarify. AOTG #3 is on Burlington on the east side of the development. The only retail space it has available in that building is being taken by Lemon Tree. Or, am I missing something??

You mean like allowing a transient hotel to operate in the central business district? What exactly could be worse? A second Duelman’s Motel location with a pawn shop operating in the back?

How can anyone whose real estate holdings include The Tivoli Hotel have the courage to comment on the ATI lease? Wow. Am I missing something here Mark?
