D99 football

Downers Grove South 34, Morton 12

Mustangs (6-0, 7-2) win WSG outright, make the playoffs into an 8-A  bracket stuffed with top 20 teams.

First round playoff is here vs. Waubonsie Valley (Aurora)  who finished third in the Upstate Eight. Warriors (5-2, 6-3) are playoff tested, beating playoff teams Oswego, St. Charles North, and Roselle. Offense averaged almost 40 points a game in their last three wins, and are on a roll behind a defense getting tougher every week.  Mustangs proved they can score, averaging over 35 a game for the season, and defense has clamped down on opponents, recording two shutouts in last five games.

Go Mustangs!

Playoff brackets are here.

Downers Grove North 29, O.P.-River Forest 35

Trojans play hard, show fans a glimpse of a better next year.  Huskies make it three wins in a row to close out season.

Footnote: Usually there’s two teams to root for in the playoffs.  This year my second pick is Alden Hebron, the smallest 1A school in the playoffs (enrollment 123).  Go Giants!

I wish DGS the best of luck against a tough opening round foe. My only advice is to NOT look past these guys. They are good!! Go Stangs!!!

Thank you Trojan players. You played your hearts out and we know it. We’re very proud you never quit on us, and we will never quit on you.

    Signed, a Trojan fan!

Yes, let’s hope DGS goes into this game well prepared. They can’t afford to look past this game. Two years ago it looked like there was a managable game and they found out fairly fast that H-F even at 5-4 was pretty darn good having come out of the tough South Suburban Blue conference. H-F eventually went to the semi-finals.

Rain, mud, cold, wind, just horrible weather conditions all year long. The Marching Mustangs Band have been there every half time putting on a great show. Thanks Marching Mustangs.

Kickoff 6pm Saturday at Benedictine University. Sandburg vs. Hinsdale Central is scheduled there Friday night. I have to assume they are anticipating larger crowds than the home team fields can handle.

Or maybe we were anticipating being more successful on a real football field!! Our fields suck!

Chad, you are correct. Our field is not playable. Because of the rain expected, it was move to Benedictine. This has been a problem for many years now. The facilities at both schools are in dire need of updating and are, as the School Board noted at their last meeting, unsafe. As usual I will get on my soap box. There is $14.2 millinoi dollars setting in the Dupage clerks office because of the Jury award in the Woodridge land lawsuit. Dist 99 is appealing that verdict. Dist 99 has spent over a millinoi dollars in Attorneys fees on the case. If they were to withdraw the appeal, extend the present bounds back out to 20 years ( this would allow 12 million additional dollars with no increase in the debt service amount), we could have new facilities at both schools. It makes no sense to sit on a piece of property that you will never use when the property you are using is falling apart. By the way, if the district wins the appeal and gets the land back, whats it worth now? This board and administration needs to explain the logic of this but, they won’t.

I still feel we should have gotten more for the land, but now it appears we will not get more for the land we could use that money to upgrade both facilities.

    Go South!!

    Great News Chad!!!

I just hope South High can get to the State Finals before we send “those darn section 8 housing Chicago trash” back to their grandma’s house.

Some one please make sure that any football player who might also be a section 8 renter is allowed to sitck around long enough to get us another trophy.

    Go Team!!!

I think they will have a tougher test against Bollingbrook. I am sure they have more S8T on their team than we do! LOL

    Go Mustangs!!

And on a different front, DGN alum Garrett Edwards was in on the 4th and 1 stop that led to the 99 yard drive that began the 3rd quarter thrashing of Michigan by the Illini yesterday.

DGS and the Illini both winners on Saturday. It was a good football day!
