So now the yard awash in fallen leaves is awash in yet more rain.
My gauge indicates we’ve gotten — gasp! — another two inches. Can that be right? I just dumped out two inches earlier this week.
Village crews responded earlier today to reports of flooded streets, but so far no residential flooding has been reported. I keep watching for dribbles in the basement, but so far, so good. Hard to believe, given that every gutter is clogged with leaves.
The stormwater inlets must be, too. At Tuesday’s council meeting the mayor has asked residents to do their bit to keep the inlets clear of leaves and debris. If the rain would ease up maybe some of us would even take him up on that.
In the meantime, how are you coping with the rainiest October in recent memory? Good news: It’s almost over.

I’ve been out 3 times today to clean out the drainage grate in the street in front of my house.
Com. Durkin made the request of the people to keep the curbs free of leaves and the Mayor backed him up on his request.
Still Durkin get the rap for the leaves………amazing!
The attention Public Works has paid to inlets and upgrades is helping. It’s good when things work the way they’re supposed to. Still a ways to go, but our neighborhood seems to handle it better since the major street rebuild last year.
I raked my street curb twice yesterday. My street was 9 inches deep, & flooded, so someone had to do it. Thank goodness the water wasn’t freezing cold. PW was out there with this weird looking truck that looked like it was designed just for picking up and sweeping street leaves. It had this dump system on top that loaded right into a dump truck. Very impressive.
Looks the Washington park improvements are working even though they are not finished – my seeping, leaky old basement is surprisingly dry.
Washington Park can accommadate an Olympic size swimming pool.
