Election filings

November 5th, 2009 · by Mark Thoman · 3 Comments · 2010 election, County Politics, Local politics

Filing ended Monday, and the County Board of elections has posted an unofficial listing of candidates.  Where needed, the ballot order will be decided by a lottery on November 10th.  Where two or more candidates from the same party file, there will be a primary run off.

Carole A. Cheney of  Aurora was the sole Democratic Party filer for County Board Chairman.  The Republican field has four primary contenders:

  • Dan Cronin of Elmhurst, State Senator from District 21.
  • Gary Grasso of Burr Ridge, Mayor of Burr Ridge.
  • Debra L. Olson of Wheaton, County Board member District 4.
  • Carole Pankau of Itasca, State Senator from District 23.

District 2, which includes Downers Grove roughly north of  Maple Avenue has one 2 yr. term.  Filers include:

  • Catherine D. Sewell (D) of Villa Park
  • Jeff Redick (R-Incumbent) from Elmhurst
  • Mary Wuttke Kranz (R) of Woodridge

District 3 includes the south half of Downers Grove, for one 2 year term:

  • Greg Abbott (R) of Woodridge
  • Dennis Brennan (R) of Hinsdale
  • Brian Krajewski (R) of Downers Grove
  • Karol Sole (D) of Westmont

Right of the bat it’s going to be more cost efficient for the Democratic Party candidates who will not have to run what amounts to a year-long campaign.

I am going to support Brian since he has been dedicated to this village, township and the county for a long time now. Good luck Brian.

Dan Cronin will not get my vote. I have emailed and called him for a variety of issues and he has never so much as even acknowledge my correspondence with a form letter.

I dont disagree with his politics and I dont think that he is a bad person, but his lack of responses to my myriad of questions has lost my vote.

How about using a litmus test of public officials based on the following… each new public official– be they Fed, state, county, school district, etc. must go on a retirement program akin to the plebian private workers. Our society is up to the next generation’s necks in promises and the public sector today earns more on average than the private sector. I say use this as a litum test to decide which public official is for us or just bellying up to the bar for themselves… Every new public official from the President on down–get the same deal as the workers paying for all these “public” programs!
