The Raiders brought passion with them tonight, with a pregame moment of silence for PFC Michael Pearson, slain two days ago in the Ft. Hood tragedy. Pearson was a 2006 Bolingbrook graduate.   They also brought their ground game, scoring first to cap  a punishing drive helped by a 54-yard run by Jamel Martin.  They blocked the extra point, but the Mustangs could not get it on track in the first half, trailing 12-0 at the break.

Chandler Whitmer came out a different QB in the second half, marching the Mustangs downfield in a 12 play 76 yard drive (3-4, 40 yds) and hitting sophmore RB Josh Williams for 7 yards and the Mustangs closed the score to 12-7.  Both sides’ D dug in and the 3rd quarter ended 12-7.

Bolingbrook went up by 12, 19-7 on a 24 yard screen play with 10:30 left to play, and it looked dim for Mustang faithful.

In the next 9 minutes of fierce turn-around game, Mustangs O scored, the D held, and the O scored a second time to take the lead for the first time in the game, stunning the Raider home crowd.  Mustangs up 20-19, Belskis went for 2 and the Mustangs converted, 22-19, and put it on the backs of their defense to close the deal with under two minutes left to play.

The Raiders took over at their own 35, and junior LB Jim Campion picked off a pass, giving the ball back to the Mustang offense, who needed only a first down to win, which they got, running out the clock on a sweet payback victory.

What a game!  Game recap here.

Next opponent is Carol Stream (Glenbard North) (10-1), who recorded six shutouts and have only lost to their conference champs Wheaton-Warrenville South in the tough DuPage Valley Conference that placed 5 of their 8 teams into the playoffs this year.  The Panthers average almost 30 points a game on offense, and demolished first round foe Tinley Park 29-0, and second round opponent Sandbrg 27-0 Friday night.

Go Mustangs!

5A Montini stays alive with another gritty win over their own conference champs Marion Central 42-21 after falling behind early 14-0.  Game recap here. Their next opponent is Sycamore.  Go Broncos!

A great win for DGS! The defense played solid all night keeping the team in the game through the first half. The O line had big problems containing the defensive pass rush which looked like it was forcing Whitmer to throw sooner than he wanted to in the first half. Sure looked like they made some good adjustments for the second half with plays designed to neutralize that fierce rush from the end. There were good misdirection plays, a QB keeper when you least expected it and a little less pressure on Whitmer with some quick hitter pass plays. Great adjustments by the coaching staff for the second half and overall top notch execution in all 3 phases of the game in that 22 point second half.

MT, I believe it is “Chandler”, not Chalmer Whitmer. When they beat Glenbard North, you can report a bit more accurately then. ;)

That’s nothing; I had Scott, then Chris Williams before I got an email saying it was Josh. You’d think with as unique a first name as Chandler I wouldn’t forget. I read in the game recap he is UIUC bound.

Woodstock beat Lake Villa. Mustang games have been a joy this year. they really play hard, and DG-DA is right on the nose with the coaches getting it done with good halftime adjustments.

The Trib says it was Campion, the Sun says it was Ryan Kelly who had the final pick.

Great year Mustangs. You hung in there against a great Glenbard team! Did anyone else notice that all the Glenbards are still alive in the playoffs? Weird!!
