The Reporter has a story about reporting inaccuracies that apparently have drained DuPage Water Commission coffers of millions in unrestricted funds.
Commissioners agreed at their Wednesday meeting to bring in accountants to help unravel the problem, which was discovered after the commission’s finance director — who left in October — went on medical leave.
According to the Reporter:
Budget numbers had been inaccurately reported “in several areas for an extended period of time,” said (General Manager Bob) Martin, choosing his words carefully because it is a sensitive personnel matter.
Officials reportedly do not believe anything illegal took place. However, water rates seem destined to rise next year, from $1.48 to $2.21 per 1,000 gallons for the “typical” family of three, the Reporter states.
There is at least one bright spot: The loss of the mega-millions prompted the commission to call a halt to the its annual holiday party for commissioners and their spouses.

This is the same group that got caught hoarding cash a couple years ago and had to disburse it, now their short and our rates are going up 50%? Great.
