This is the first of a series of charitable opportunities for Downers Grove residents this holiday season. Send additional suggestions to dgreport@hotmail.com
One of my biggest regrets as a parent is that I haven’t involved my children more closely and consistently in our charitable endeavors, both at Christmas and throughout the year.
For many of us, the month of December presents a special opportunity to count our blessings and consider those who are struggling.
Last year I invited readers to post suggestions for those feeling charitable of spirit. Here’s one that appeared in my in-box yesterday that shows the good that can result when various community interests work together to do good. Please feel free to add more.
Dear Customer,
It’s hard to believe the holidays are approaching. To celebrate, Community Bank of Downers Grove will once again host our Holiday Sharing program, designed to help those in need.
To participate, simply stop by our Warren Avenue or Ogden Avenue locations to make a $10 donation to one of five not-for-profit organizations: Family Shelter Service, Ray Graham Association, West Suburban Humane Society, FISH Food Pantry, or Almost Home Kids. In return, the bank will match your $10 donation, and also give you a $10 certificate that you can use at: Ballydoyle Irish Pub & Restaurant, Emmett’s Ale House, 2Toots Train Whistle Grill, Rocca’s Mexican Grill, Egg Harbor Cafe, or Gatto’s Restaurant and Bar.
Last year you donated $3,520 and, with the bank’s match, a total of $7,040 was awarded to organizations that need our support. We hope you will participate this year and that we can surpass last year’s donations to these organizations.
On behalf of everyone at Community Bank of Downers Grove, I’d like to wish you and your family a wonderful holiday and Happy New Year.
Thank you for your business.
Sincerely,
Michael G. Busse

Community Bank of Downers Grove

I am glad to see “the spirit of Elmer” a live and well in Downers Grove, pass it on.
Tomorrow is the last day to take advantage of this great offer. Win-win-win! Contribute $10 or more, they donate $10, and you get a $10 restaurant coupon. Give to all five charities and you get five restaurant coupons all good through February 2010.
Done! Gave to several and got several coupons. Kudos to Community Bank for coming up with a win-win-win proposition.
Thanks for the heads up. Fortunately the bank is open until 5:30 tonight.
This is one more reason to transfer my assets (so much more commanding than dwindling cash) over from Chase. This bank always seems to be supporting one local cause or another.
