Bacon Brothers bound for Tivoli

December 2nd, 2009 · by Elaine Johnson · 3 Comments · District 58, Fundraisers

baconbros The Bacon Brothers, a popular folk and blues duo featuring actor Kevin Bacon and his musician brother Michael, will appear at 8 p.m.,  Sat., March 27, 2010, at the Tivoli as the spring fundraiser for the Education Foundation of Downers Grove District 58.

The Bacon Brothers have been playing together for 14 years and recently released their sixth album, “New Year’s Day.”

Kevin Bacon’s many film credits include Footloose, JFK and A Few Good Men. Michael Bacon’s recent projects include “African-American Lives” (1 and 2) and Marie Antoinette.

“Long before Kevin Bacon launched his prolific stage and screen career and before Michael Bacon became known as a go-to composer for film and television, they were just two brothers, born nine years apart, coming of age in Center City Philadelphia,” according to the band’s Web site.

“The band continues to win believers—show by show, album by album,” according to the site. “As The New Yorker recently observed: ‘Hollywood hangs like an albatross around the neck of any movie star turned musician, but this duo shakes off the burden of fame with sharply executed rock that has a blue-collar, rootsy edge’.”

Debbie Drews, chairman of the foundation fundraiser for the third year, has seen the band perform at least five times. “The band is amazing. They are very talented musicians and songwriters,” she said.

“I’m thrilled that the Education Foundation of Downers Grove District 58 is able to bring a big name to the Tivoli Theater and Downers Grove.

“We hope that everyone will consider attending this event,” Drews said. “In this economic climate more than ever we need to raise funds for the children in our school district.”

Show tickets would make a great Christmas gift, she said. “Treat yourselves to a night out and do something for the kids at the same time.”

Tickets for the show will go on sale Dec. 18 at the foundation’s Web site, at the Community Bank of Downers Grove and the district’s Administrative Service Center, 1860 W. 63rd St.

Ticket prices are $100 for seating in the first six rows of the center section, $75 for rows seven through 16 of the center section, and $50 for all remaining seats.

“This will be a sellout,” Drews said. “Get your tickets early.”

The foundation has struggled in recent years to match the huge successes of spring shows like “Second City” and was seeking a sure hit for 2010. The Bacon Brothers promises to be it.

Plus, as a bonus, everyone in the audience will become unofficial participants in the most famous example of the Six Degrees of Separation phenomenon.

You guys – we want DG people there, too, not just Bacon Bros groupies! :-)

I’ll comment, Debbie. Looking forward to seeing the band — from the cheap seats, as usual :)

They did a video/song with the Bellamy Brothers, and it’s not bad.
