Hat tip to blogger RyanDe680, Mayor Sandack, and Township Supervisor Frank Wurster:
Early voting begins January 11 and ends January 28.
If you want to vote early, you can do so by stopping by the Committee Room at the Downers Grove Village Hall, 801 Burlington Ave., starting Monday, January 11. Early voting hours are:
- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Tuesday 8 amm. – 7 p.m.
- Saturday 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
In order to vote early you must be a registered DuPage County voter and you must present a government-issued photo identification card, such as a drivers license or state photo ID. The Committee Room is accessed from the Curtiss Street side entrances that also lead to the council chambers.
Once an early vote has been cast, the vote is final. The voter may not go to the polling place on Election Day to change a vote.
The General Primary Election is Feb. 2 and is held at normal polling places.
Voting information Web site.
eVoter is a new site this election season. If you type in your address it’ll tell you where you should go to vote (not up yet), and also has information on candidates if they have provided it.
Absentee ballots.
The DuPage County Elections Commission has detailed information on absentee ballots, including for college students who will be away at school.
Today was the last day to register to vote in the general primary, but registration reopens on Feb. 4 so you or family members can register for the general election in November.
This primary matters for both parties, as residents have a chance to be heard by voting for and advancing candidates who will be more responsive to the critical needs of the country, the state, and the county. The primary is Feb. 2 and the general election is not until November, so there’s plenty of time to chew the political fat over the summer and through the fall.

That HT-you couldn’t find an odder grouping? LOL.
Its articles like this one why I keep coming back. Herrick Middle School is the first place where I casted a vote in a real election, in Downers Grove. This web site gives the suburb perspective on Illinois state politics. Knock on wood I never been called up for juror duty. I have been voting since I was 18. Untill I die or lose the right to vote; I will keep on voting. Last election in 2008 I took my young child to watch me vote, I heard on the radio or read some AP article on the internet this is the best way to teach our kids to vote. When I leave work every morning and see our nation’s flag half mast, you are nuts and not me if you don’t think that strikes a nerve. The very least I can do other than be a law abiding citizen, work and pay taxes is cast a vote. Sure, if you don’t like any of the candidates by all means write in a candidate you like or take from the 1985 movie Brewster’s Millions “NONE OF THE ABOVE”. Not that my opinion matters, but only a fool would not vote in Feb. 2 primary; when our young men and women on the line in all parts of the world defending Freedom. I will leave you with this image China 1989 Tiananmen Square an unknown college student faced a line of tanks that was cracking down on protest for democracy, now that’s a man who’s wants to vote for a choice of candidates. Thank god we can voice our opinion as we please in the USA. The very worst when you vote the most you’ll face a very cold day this Feb. 2 maybe some snow or cold rain; keep in mind others are facing much worst conditions this Feb. 2. It’s the least we can do, vote. I spoke with an older man recently who does not have right to vote and that’s the one right he misses the most.
Hey Sideline, I got an email from Frank, read Ryan’s post, and saw Ron’s Facebook entry. And I bet there’ll still be some people who, come Feb 2, will not even think about voting, even after all that. Where’s Grammich with some stats when you need him? Last comparable primary (March 2006) DuPage County had a 28.83% voter turnout. Almost 3 out of 4 voters took a pass. For Gov, R’s got Topinka, whose hair is some unearthly color, and D’s got Blago, whose hair is some unearthly creature. That’s what happens when people don’t vote.
I’m not a statican by any means, but I would argue with the historical low voter turnout in off year primary election that the regular individual voter would count even more/ would mean more in this upcoming election than others. I believe Illinois is sick of going through Governors like pairs of dirty underwear. Not to sound like Ross Perot or a Nike ad, it is simply folks just VOTE!!! This upcoming Feb. 2: You have plenty of different times and chances to vote in this election; no excuses!!!!
Let me vent a bit. For years, I voted at Divine Savior Church, which was walking distance from my house.
Then, out of the blue, Divine Savior told the Election Commission that it didn’t want to be a polling place, shortly before fall, 2006 election.
So now, I vote at the church in the 6600 block of Fairview.
Now that we have primaries in early February, rather than mid March, the weather can be absolutely vile. Talk about discouraging voting.
Yes, I know I could vote early, but I know people who voted for presidential candidate in ’08, only to see those candidates drop out between the day they voted and the day of the Illinois primary. Early voting is enticing, but things can and do happen
during the last 3 weeks of an election that can change the minds of the voters.
To get back to my gripe, why can’t the Election Commission put a polling place either at Kingsley School or Downers South?
I feel your pain, ckfred.
We used to vote at a church a few blocks from home. Now we vote at the library, which necessitates a trip across the RR tracks and finding a parking spot or slogging through the snow on foot.
And I have it better than most — my schedule is flexible enough to allow me to avoid the rush hour train traffic plus I can walk if the weather is better than 15 degrees and six inches of snow.
As for early voting, I learned the hard way that things can change dramatically before election day. Nevertheless, I will probably do it again this year.
Regarding schools as polling places: There’s been a movement against doing that because of security concerns. I believe last year District 58 closed on Election Day just to ensure the safety of students with voters coming in and out all day.
EJ,
My church has a pre-school program and is a polling place. The pre-school started closing on Electon Day, since it takes the same vacation/holiday schedule as D58.
SSSSHHHH!!! Mr. Walz don’t tell your wife. Mrs. Palin will be on FOX TV more with her own series. We know what you will be watching (only in good humor). Keep warm in Downers Grove this election season and don’t forget to vote. You know the inmates that got early release this year; their families will more than likely be voting for Quinn. Will anyone ever be ethical in higher office in Illinois?
Off topic, I see the first ever National Tea Party Convenation is sold out in Nashville, TN; this upcoming February. Anybody attending?
National Tea Party Convention…in Nashville.
Sounds about right. Wonder if the Custom Double-wide Trailer Detailers Convention is in town that week, I hear their workshop on Bondo applications in the Kitchen is not to be missed…
I will not only being voting, but working to get the vote out. I know PLENTY of Independents and Republicans heading to Massachusetts this weekend to make sure the US senate becomes a filibuster. Many independents are not happy with the BS coming out of this Healthcare bill. You would’ve thought the Big pandering to NEBRASKA and the UNIONS at the expense of all the other taxpayers would’ve have been held off until after the Mass. vote this coming Tuesday. You notice the mass media isn’t talking about it, just the “fair and balanced” outlets. I actually think OBAMA going to Mass. to help is going to do the opposite, just like Bush to the Republicans.
I know this is off topic. But I don’t seem to have access to the open thread. Happy Martin Luther King Day!!!!
Off topic again going with the previous theme of the upcoming National Tea Party Convention in Music City; I see the AP story the Tea Baggers protesting their convention. I am sure Jon Stewart will have something funny to say about that tonight. I think that’s funny, Tea baggers protesting the National Tea Party Convention. I knew the truth would come out about those goof-balls.
