Sandack, Barnett endorse Abbott

January 21st, 2010 · by Elaine Johnson · 22 Comments · 2010 election, County Politics

Mayor Ron Sandack, Commissioner Bob Barnett and local attorney Jim Russ have jointly issued an e-mail endorsing Greg Abbott to represent District 3 on the DuPage County Board.

“Greg Abbott is a good man who wants to serve for the right reasons…Greg Abbott is our choice for DuPage  County Board District 3,” the e-mail states.

Abbott is one of three candidates seeking to represent the GOP in the November election. The others are former mayor Brian Krajewski and Dennis Brennan, president of the Hinsdale Township High School District board.

Abbott, a Woodridge attorney and political newcomer who previously worked in the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, also has been endorsed by Commissioner Sean P. Durkin, the Daily Herald and the Clarendon Hills Doings. The Herald also ran a Q-and-A with the candidates, here. Abbott’s answers are notable for their brevity.

Krajewski, meanwhile, has picked up numerous endorsements including those of State Sen. Christine Radogno, state representatives Patti Bellock, Sandy Pihos and Jim Durkin, DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett and current District 3 board members Michael McMahon and Tom Bennington.

Bennington, a Downers Grove resident, was appointed to the seat last fall following the resignation of Kyle Gilgis, also of Downers Grove. The district includes parts of Downers Grove, Westmont, Clarendon Hills, Hinsdale, Willowbrook, Darien, Burr Ridge, Lemont, Bolingbrook and Woodridge.

Sandack, Barnett and Russ also used the most recent e-mail to reiterate their support of  State Sen. Dan Cronin, a candidate for DuPage County Board chairman who is also endorsed by Durkin. The Tribune has posted footage of its interview with Cronin and fellow GOP candidates Gary Grasso, Debra Olson and Carole Pankau here.

Cronin chairs the DuPage County Republican Party, while Krajewski is chairman of the GOP township organization.

On the Democratic side of the ticket, environmental consultant Karol Sole of Westmont is running unopposed for the District 3 seat, while Carole A. Cheney, an Aurora attorney, also is unopposed in her bid for chairman of the DuPage County Board. The election is set for Feb. 2. Early voting continues through Jan. 28 at Village Hall.

I am a DG resident and I am voting for the one DG resident who will be in District 3 – KRAJEWSKI. I encourage ALL District 3 Downers Grove Residents to do the same. I believe this to be best for DOWNERS GROVE. If Abbott gets in there will be two Woodridge residents representing Downers Grove Residents on the board in District 3 (SOUTH OF THE TRACKS) and one Hinsdale resident.

The former Mayor of this town, who grew up in this town will be representing this town at the county level. I find this VERY IMPORTANT.

Quite frankly, to not endorse the downers grove resident puts a stick in the eye of all downers grove residents who live south of the tracks. We should be represented by one of our own. To not acknowledge this is petty politics at the expense of DG residents and a slight on us who live South. Sorry, that’s how I feel.

  • For Abbott

Greg lives just south of south DG. He is running for the right reasons and he has the strongest position on campaign reform and WILLNOT accept campaign donations from vendors. Remember MikeK that that South DG is just a portion of District 3

Huh? Didn’t RS scathingly criticize Krajewski in the 2007 mayoral race for meddling in partisan politics? Isn’t that now taboo for DG elected officials? RS can’t say he’s just doing this as an individual voter because he doesn’t live in District 3 and can’t even vote for GA. Smells like bad blood left over from years ago.

  • YoYoMa

Krajewski is the best man for the job!!!!!!!!!

    Go Brian!!!!!!!!

  • AnyoneBUT Brian

Brian is grasping for another political office after getting beaten out of DG Mayor by a 3-1 vote.

If he is so good then why is Greg getting all of the newspaper endorsments? As for all the supporters that Brian has, well if you donate to their campaigns like he has they will endorse you too. Just look at Brians D2′s.

    Go Greg!

2-1. And I doubt there’s issues to motivate that reaction in this race. Abbott seems like a nice guy, and Brennan is the President of the Hinsdale Township High School Dist. 86 Board of Education, which has more voters than the south side of DG. So it’s an open race. I’d also rather have someone from our own village for the district (Gilgis who held the seat is a DG’er), so I’ll be voting for Brian Krajewski. I think his CPA acumen will serve us well as the county will have it’s own budget challenges despite what they might be saying now.

I wonder if Sandack, Russ, and Barnett can ever manage to do anything separate from each other. They’re BFF’s how cute! Puke. Go Krajewski!

Krajewski’s D-2 is nothing special, mostly but not all local. Abbott took $5 grand from Jack Roeser’s PAC, and then another $8 grand from Roeser direct. Brennan has no contributions from anyone living in the district.

Not that my opinion matters, what I like about former Mayor Brian Krajewski of Downers Grove is that he lead or pave the way from Downers Grove of old to Downers of New (High Quality Relo-Land). Some say the downtown parking garage is an eyesore and a waste of taxpayers’ money, others say planning for the future. Not that I live in Downers in anymore or can vote in your election, but I see the transition of regular old Downers into Downers style type of Hinsdale. Nice place to visit/shop/talk politics with the Judy Baar Type but I would not want to live there pay for that lifestyle of yours. If you look around the burbs around Chicago, Krajewski updated Downers to keep or attract the high end crowd. In my book, good job!

    Anyonebutbrian—

Now we know that the endorsement has nothing to do with GA’s abilities….only a vendetta against a former rival….You and your political hacks are the pitiful individuals.

Earl, I agree with you wholeheartedly.

  • mark

The thing that scares me the most about Brian is his fundrasing. If he gets in I can see my mailbox filling up with golf invites, dinners and sponsorship request. If that was not bad enough the follow up phone calls badgering me on why I am not supporting Brian………..

Look at the amount of money that Brian spent to run agains Sandack to loose……..

He may have done some good for the village but I do not support going backwards.

It is time to clean up the campaign finance and campaign reform. That is why I support Greg Abbott and ask you to do the same.

  • MikeK

If you are so concerned about campaign finance – How come you haven’t pointed out that GA recieved soooo much money TWELVE THOUSAND dollars from one supporter? Roeser?? Isn’t that the goofy right wing dude who personally attacked Mark Kirk?
    Let’s analyse everyone’s D2 please.

  • Anyone BUT Brian

I do not care about who donates to GA. All I care about is anyone but Brian.

    SIMPLE.

  • iremember2007

    mark –

Your comments confirm my suspicion that the GA supporters here are still living in 2007. Let go of your hatred already, people! Vote based on the merits, not emotion. Let’s face it, GA has zero to little leadership experience, so I guess his backers are trying to cover that up by going negative.

  • TLK

Three excellent candidates, shows that southeast dupage republicans have a deep bench.

  • MikeK

I hear ya TLK, if we could only just teach them how to let things go, and work for a common cause…Keeping DuPAGE County controlled by Republicans.

  • Larry

Driving around town this weekend I am amazed at how many illegally placed signs Brian has in the Distrct. Very few in private property. Majority of them are in the public right away.

Appears to me to be a desperate candidate.

    Too bad.

    Hey larry
I personally put out 30 legal ones….in our town

Oh, yes….I saw GA supporters putting his signs in the easments in Dg TODAY… didn’t know that was legal?
Also, how come I saw soooo many GA signs NORTH of the tracks in Disctrict 2? Didn’t I see one outside a person’s house on Mainstreet that does business with the county? HMMM….why would someone outside his voting district want him elected?

  • Meat

Ugh, election season. People please, if your going to show your support for a candidate by placing a sign in your front yard, at least take down the broken screen door-its January for god sakes.

  • Anyone BUT Brian

Feb 3rd cannot come soon enough!

  • DGDAD

I am going to speak with my vote. I encourage everyone else to as well.

Signs, leaflets and endorsements don’t matter if we don’t walk -drive over to the polling place. Early voting turnout is low. Let’s not make that an indicator of Next Tuesday.

  • Anyone BUT Brian

    DGDAD AMEN!!!!!!
