The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club is offering several scholarships for high school seniors and current college students.
Two high school seniors will each be awarded a $1,250 Senior Scholarship. Applicants must be a resident of Downers Grove or living within the boundaries of Community High School District 99, and must be in the top 25 percent of their class academically.
Two recipients will be chosen for $1,000 Fine Arts Scholarships, awarded to a high school senior living within District 99 that will be pursuing a fine arts degree at an accredited college or university in the 2010-11 school year.
Applicants for the $1,500 Alumni Education Scholarship must obtain a letter of recommendation from a current or former Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club member.
Applications for all three scholarships must be postmarked by Friday, Feb. 26. The club’s Education Committee will review the applications, and winners will be notifed in mid-March.

The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club also is sponsoring the 19th annual Outstanding Teacher Award to recognize teachers in Downers Grove area schools. Entries must be postmarked by Friday, Feb. 26.
A student must write an essay (60 words for K-3, 100 words for grades 4-8) describing the teacher and what makes him or her special. The essay does not have to be about the child’s current teacher.
Students with winning entries will honor the teacher they nominated with a plaque courtesy of the DGJWC on Tuesday, March 23.
