520!

May 7th, 2010 · by Elaine Johnson · 3 Comments · Conservation, Village Hall

That’s the number of rain barrels awaiting pick up tomorrow at Village Hall thanks to the overwhelming success of the village initiative to make the old-fashioned garden accessory available at a discounted price.

The response far exceeded expectations, said Doug Kozlowski, director of community relations. Staffers were hoping to sell 200 barrels at $70 each through a partnership with the Conservation Foundation.

The 520 barrels also is more than any other sale in which the  Naperville-based Conservation Foundation has participated, Kozlowski said.

Residents will be able to pick up their barrels from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow, May 8. E-mails have already gone out assigning a specific time.  And don’t forget a check to the Conservation Foundation for the cost of your barrel(s).

I’ll be working there tomorrow, and I do mean WORKING!

That’s 130 barrels per hour, or more than 2 a minute from start to finish.

    Anticipate traffic.

I’ll be there all day helping out. I’d like to thank again Community Events Director Mary Scalzetti for her hard work putting this together and for letting the Pierce Downer Heritage Alliance help out. Many civic groups and school environmental clubs, and even a blog or two helped spread the word of the sale and of the benefits rain barrels bring.

Thank you in advance for your patience tomorrow. It’ll be worth it. Rain or shine it’s on.
