Hacked

July 22nd, 2010 · by Elaine Johnson · 2 Comments · Features

I got yet another message this morning from a correspondent whose e-mail account had been hacked and hijacked. This is the fourth time in about a month that this has occurred among my contacts.

This seems to be a growing concern and I’m wondering why now, after years of e-mailing, these accounts are being picked off. Clearly, e-mail passwords (and probably all passwords) should be changed more often than most of bother to do. But is something else afoot?

I found this explanation of the problem but am curious to know how widespread the problem has been in Downers Grove and how others have dealt with it. Because it seems like only a matter of time before many more of us will face this cyber irritation.

I read the article for the link you provided, EJ. As you nkow, I was hacked, and I did none of the things you are not “supposed” to do.. one thing I did, though, was FACEBOOK and my personal email had the same password.. I really think it had something to do with Facebook and that account, but who knows? I have now changed ALL my passwords and they are harder to remember now even for me… let’shope that works!

I have had wireless internet in the house for a number of years on laptops and desktops with no hacking issues. Within days of having an Ipod Touch both of my email accounts were hacked.
