CEC explores future role

The Community Events Commission met tonight.  Village Manager Dave Fieldman was leading part two of an exercise designed so the CEC could figure out their mission moving forward, and did a fine job.  Tell me again why in the past we spent good money on outsiders to moderate this kind of priority setting stuff?  Exactly. [...]

How much does Heritage Fest cost the village?  How much positive budget impact does the village receive from suspending it for 2010?  The final figure released by the village indicates that suspending the 29th consecutive Heritage Fest will save the village $494,000. A copy of the 2009 report written last October has been requested.  Who [...]

If there’s something good to come from this agonizing budget season, maybe it’s the call by several commissioners for a debriefing where both the council and the community can discuss how the process can be improved. “We need to look at the process and what we’ve done right and and what we can do better [...]

Once the Thanksgiving feast is over and the leftovers are stashed, it’s time to usher in the Christmas season. This year, several seasonal events are on tap as downtown Downers Grove presents “It’s a Wonderful Weekend,” Nov. 27 through 29. There’s a new schedule this year, kicking off with the Community Tree Lighting Ceremony on [...]

An open letter to council

Please save Heritage Fest. Council members, I am writing to express my disappointment at the decision to suspend Heritage Fest for 2010.  Realistically, I beleive Commissioner Neustadt’s expressed concern is valid: suspended for one year makes it very hard to bring back the next year.

Village Hall deserves credit for making this year’s budget process a little less painful — at least for residents seeking information about village operations and the various cost-savings proposals. Members of the budget team, which includes personnel from the village manager’s office and finance office, have been posting a series of “budget responses’ on the [...]

Mayor Sandack doesn’t want a village dentist. This is going to be a collaborative report, and will be modified.  I took what EJ wrote last night and spliced in my own notes, and she will do the same later.  I encourage everyone to chime in with their own thoughts, as a couple times I was [...]
