With the stats counter coming up on the DGreport‘s millionth hit — that’s 1,000,000 — since April 2008, how better to celebrate than with a friendly contest? I will award a $1,000,000 $10 gift certificate for use at downtown Downers Grove shops and restaurants to the reader who comes closest to the day of the [...]

Once the Thanksgiving feast is over and the leftovers are stashed, it’s time to usher in the Christmas season. There’s a new schedule this year, kicking off with the Community Tree Lighting Ceremony on [...]

Posted 22 October 2009 | By | Categories: Downtown Management Corp., Downtown Redevelopment, Economic Development, Local Business | 4 Comments

Strolling the streets of downtown Elmhurst Tuesday night, I noticed a couple  of empty storefronts — both of which displayed signs offering $10,000 grants to qualified retail businesses interested in moving into town. The idea was intriguing, particularly in light of Downers Grove’s recent discussion on the value of retail to the overall health of [...]

Editor’s note: Sorry for the delay. This story has turned out to be longer and more involved than expected. A bad cold over the weekend didn’t help. Part 3 will be up shortly. The proposal to lease 10,000 square feet of Acadia on the Green space to a physical therapy and fitness facility has elicited [...]

The Village Council is set to vote Oct. 6 on whether to allow the developer of the Acadia on the Green complex to lease 10,000 square feet of first-floor space to ATI for a physical therapy and fitness center. The question has prompted vocal opposition from a group of downtown retailers and others who believe [...]
