Counting our blessings

Recently our family experienced a house fire.  Within minutes of leaving our home, neighbors and friends surrounded and embraced us.

The Downers Grove Fire Department along with several other local fire departments came quickly to help put out the fire.  Every attempt to save our beloved pet, Bailey, was made.  A Downers Grove Police Officer waited patiently as I attempted to remember my children’s dates of birth.  Members of the fire and police departments stopped by days later to check on us and lend support.  The staff at Good Sam’s Emergency Room cared for us with sensitivity and professionalism.  At the Arboretum Animal Hospital, the staff held us as we said good-bye to Bailey.  The kindness of all of these professionals will not be forgotten.

Neighbors and friends, too numerous to mention, and people we did not even know, called or stopped by dropping off clothing, food, care and support.  Our church and neighboring congregations, the PTA, school staff, the Boy Scouts, HGNA, and the YMCA Indian Guides and Princesses were all there for us.

Downers Grove/El Sierra is truly a community; a place we are proud to live and raise our children.  Our family is overwhelmed and humbled by the generosity and care we have received.  We are blessed to be part of such a supportive community.

With Profound Gratitude,
Cindy, Chris, Max and Lauren O’Meara
