DGreport readers already know the options, but now staff has weighed in, recommending the existing program be kept in place for another three years. This is a first reading (workshop) of that motion, and council is expected to vote next week on [...]

Budget passes 6-1. Everyone on council agreed this was a tough budget to do, and in the end all but Commissioner William Waldack voted for it. Several council members echoed Bruce Beckman’s request for a “debriefing” so that the good and bad of this year’s marathon process could be reviewed and improvements wrought. Most council [...]

The Mayor strikes back
November 20th, 2009 · 42 Comments · budget, Village Council
Painting an unfortunate picture. This is different. The whole “praise people in public, criticize them in private” meme defined Ron Sandack’s first two years in office. It led to fast meetings, unanimous votes, jocularity and little dissenting opinion. That normal good humor and jocularity got a kick in the teeth Wednesday night courtesy of Sandack [...]

Mayor Sandack doesn’t want a village dentist. This is going to be a collaborative report, and will be modified. I took what EJ wrote last night and spliced in my own notes, and she will do the same later. I encourage everyone to chime in with their own thoughts, as a couple times I was [...]

Village budget: Council weighs in

After months of staff study, staff reports and investigation of what expense and revenue tools were available, tonight the 2010 budget began to come into focus. There’s still a way to go, but for the first time publicly and in detail council put some skin into the budget process tonight, outlining what their thoughts were [...]

Everybody missed it? Pick a local business; any one — about 80 folks involved with them protested the approval of ATI taking 10,000 square feet of prime retail space at reduced rental rates any one of them would gladly pay. Many of those local businesses are owned by people who live here. They bank here, [...]

Grasshopper tries again

Editor’s note: In a related development, Grasshopper Shuttle recently contracted with D58 to provide transportation to volleyball and basketball teams from Herrick and O’Neill middle schools. The company is providing 15-passenger vans that would typically rent for $110 per hour at the same cost as bus service. The district approached Grasshopper after its bus carrier, [...]

The village workshop meeting this week has one oddity. Active d proposes an entirely new “Chapter Four, Temporary Use and Public Gathering Provisions.” in the Village Municipal Code. Staff has done good work cleaning up and clearing up old code in the past. The first half of Chapter Four is more of the same; simplifying, [...]
